It creates a more spacious feeling, because there's no horizontal timbers defining a lower "virtual" ceiling line; this was the look and feel this homeowner was looking for. This type of truss is also appropriate when the ceiling pitch, or slope, isn't very steep. A shallow pitch, can still be quite spacious with this truss style.
